The Roosevelt Fire District in Hyde Park, New York was notified today of the receipt of a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) valued at approximately $950,000. This will allow for the existing ladder truck with a state-of-the-art vehicle. This vital equipment provides needed capabilities for performing rescues in taller buildings, firefighting from elevated positions, and supporting firefighting operations with the full complement of equipment it carries.
“The ladder truck is an essential part of our firefighting practices” stated Lew Darrow, Chief of Department. “With this grant award, we will be able to place a ladder truck in service that expands our capability fighting fires and help us maintain our nationally recognized firefighting effectiveness.” The current vehicle is 31 years old, was purchased from the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department in 2004, a refurbished by the Roosevelt Fire District and the membership.
Louis Gallo, Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners, added “This grant will continue to increase the effectiveness of the District. The new equipment will allow our volunteer firefighters to operate safer and support the firefighting operations in the District.” The AFG program requires a 5% match of funds, making the grant award a substantial impact to the District.
The Roosevelt Fire District wishes to thank our members of the United States Congress; Senator Chuck Schumer, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and Congressman Antonio Delgado, for their support of the AFG program and our grant application.
